NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) has been chosen by Dunelm, the UK’s leading home furnishings retailer, to update its data infrastructure and support its rapid growth.
Founded in 1979, Dunelm is the UK’s largest homewares retailer, and currently has 157 stores across the UK. It has ambitious plans to expand across the UK, adding more customers, staff and products to its existing network.
Dunelm’s original IT infrastructure relied on two 100TB disk shelves, but within two years, server estate had grown by 283 percent and required constant upscaling to meet the business’ demands.
Dunelm decided to work directly with NetApp to design and implement its new system, which incorporates the NetApp AFF8040 and E2760. The solution now uses just 28 percent CPU to manage all the processes that had overwhelmed the original system, supporting Dunelm’s growth both now and into the future, and enabling faster backup with the AFF8040’s SSD capabilities.
The NetApp platform has also dramatically reduced the latency of Dunelm’s system by over 90 percent, down to 2-3ms. This means tasks like logging store inventory and product availability can be processed much faster, and reports are now delivered to individual stores five hours earlier than was previously possible, supporting in-store staff in providing customers with the right products and information at the right time.
